A Case of Keratitis Caused by Fusarium Species
Abstract
Fusarium species are ubiquitous soil saprophytes and plant pathogens that commonly colonize ulcerated, burned, or traumatized skin and may cause keratitis and onychomycosis. But most of these infections are associated with trauma or the use of
corticosteroids and immunodepression. To our knowledge, there are few cases of isolated human ketatitis without concomitant immunodepression or trauma history. The authors experienced a case of keratitis caused by Fusarium species in healthy
host.
So we
describe herein a patient with a rare occurrence of mycotic keratitis caused by Fusarium species with a brief review of the literature.
